What helps keep our brains healthy as we age? đź§
TRU researchers Dr. Claudia Gonzalez Lozano and Dr. Mark Rakobowchuk are bringing together cognitive neuroscience, cardiovascular physiology and biomedical engineering to better understand the connections between brain function, vascular health and cognitive aging.
“Aging affects everyone differently, and we still have much to learn about why some people maintain their cognitive abilities better than others,” says Gonzalez Lozano. “By looking at brain function, vascular health and cognition together, we hope to better understand what contributes to neurocognitive resilience and identify approaches that could support brain health as we age.”
The project is supported by $226,796 from the Canada Foundation for Innovation’s John R. Evans Leaders Fund and will also create new opportunities for TRU students to participate in interdisciplinary research.
